Exploring Acadia with kids

Looking for new ideas for a summer getaway?

Here are some tips for visiting the stunning Acadia National park in Maine.  You can hike, bike, learn how to sail, attend a magic show, rock climb or explore marine life as a young naturalist.  Acadia and the neighboring quaint towns have it all.

ON THE WAY

The drive from NYC to Acadia takes about 8 hours.   You can make a stopover in Boston, MA or Portland, ME to make the trip more enjoyable.   Portland has wonderful Victorian shipbuilders mansions, lovely waterfront, cobblestone streets and excellent museums.  Great place to explore!

WHERE TO STAY

If you are not up for camping inside the park (two campgrounds are very popular and fill up quickly),  you can stay in a picturesque Bar Harbor seaside resort nearby and make it your base. Buy entrance passes to the park and find out FREE days to visit here: https://www.nps.gov/acad/planyourvisit/fees.htm

THE PARK

In the park you can hike 157 miles of trails! Bike for 57 miles or even go horseback riding from the stable nearby.   Top trails recommended are Cadillac mountain, Park Loop road, Schoodic point and Jordan Pond.
